Once more honored

“Designers literally change the world. They shape the spaces, buildings and cities in which we will live in the future,” said Professor Dr. Martin Ludwig Hofmann, Dean of the Detmold School of Design, in his presentation of the awards to the best graduates of the winter semester.

At the graduation ceremony last Friday, February 7, a total of 95 students from the interior design, architecture, urban planning and integrated design programs received their bachelor's and master's degrees.

During the event, the Association of German Interior Designers North Rhine-Westphalia (BDIA NRW) and the Association of German Architects East Westphalia-Lippe (BDA OWL) also honored outstanding Detmold students.

58 bachelor's students in interior design and five master's graduates in interior design and spatial art (MIAR) successfully completed their studies. In architecture, there were 17 bachelor's and three master's graduates in Integrated Architectural Design (MIAD), while in urban planning, two bachelor's students successfully passed their thesis.

Ten students have passed their exams in the internationally oriented Master Integrated Design (MID) program, with its specializations in façade design and computational design. They received their certificates in a ceremony held in the foyer of the Detmold School. Professor Dr. Axel Häusler gave the keynote address.

Professor Hofmann honored the following graduates for achieving the best final grades.

  • Bachelor's degree in interior design: Lea Seibel, Vanessa Goncz and Annika Adlung
  • Bachelor's degree in architecture: Anna Franziska Klose
  • Bachelor's degree in urban planning: only two graduates, so no award
  • Master's degree in interior design (MIAR): Lydia König
  • Master's degree in architecture (MIAD): Hendrik Felsch
  • Master's degree in integrated design (MID): Mohammed Hesham Abdelwahab

In addition, prizes recognized throughout the country were awarded. Carolin Plöger, a graduate in interior design, received the BDIA prize from the Association of German Interior Designers NRW (BDIA NRW) for her bachelor's thesis “Volumen Einstellen” (Setting Volumes).

Graduate Vanessa Goncz received BDIA recognition for her bachelor's thesis “T-Lignin Acoustics”. The thesis “Form Follows Fun” by Maren Oscenda was also recognized. Lucie Moritz-Sosna, Chairwoman of the BDIA NRW regional association, Karin Michels, board member, and Kristina Herrmann, advisor to the board of the BDIA NRW regional association, as well as Theresa Kellner, interior designer and BDIA member, congratulated all the prizewinners on behalf of the BDIA NRW.

Some of the prospective architects were also honored: the prizes of the Association of German Architects East Westphalia-Lippe (BDA OWL) went to Anna Franziska Klose, Celine Schauman, and Rabea Wisskirchen. The jury consisted of architects Reinhold Nickels, Sven Detering, and Rainer Mühl.
