TH OWL is the second most popular university in North Rhine-Westphalia and among the top ten nationwide.

The OWL University of Applied Sciences and Arts (TH OWL) has been ranked second in the “Most Popular Universities in North Rhine-Westphalia” category and tenth in the “Most Popular University Nationwide” category in the StudyCHECK Award 2025, earning it the title of “TOP University in Germany”.

It also ranks sixth among the most popular universities with 5,000 - 15,000 students. In the overall national ranking of all colleges and universities, the TH OWL is proud of its impressive 11th place out of 104.

The TH OWL would like to thank all students and alumni. The positive ratings of the degree programs and the personal experiences at the individual university locations have made these excellent rankings possible. The ratings are particularly helpful for future students in finding the right university and the right degree program.

On the StudyCHECK.de portal, courses are rated in the categories of course content, lecturers, teaching, facilities, organization, access to literature and digital studying, with up to five stars available in each category. In the past three years, TH OWL has received 1,122 ratings, resulting in an overall rating of four stars and a recommendation rate of 96 percent.

All of the reports published on StudyCheck.de in 2024 were included in the ranking. The score, which is made up of the star rating and the students' recommendation rate, determines the ranking of the universities.

The OWL University of Applied Sciences and Arts offers a wide range of courses at its Detmold, Lemgo and Höxter sites, as well as at the two study locations in Herford and Minden, with around 55 bachelor's and master's degree programs. Practical orientation is important. Several courses have unique features in the state or nationwide.
