What Yoga Has to Do with Decentralized Energy Supply

Shuchita Kishore, Consul General of the Republic of India, visited TH OWL at the Innovation Campus last week. Her visit to Lemgo focused on the specialization in academic cooperation between India and TH OWL, as well as discussing shared perspectives on research, education, and sustainability.

The Consul General’s visit is also intended to spark new ideas for further joint projects. This involves not only academic cooperation but also cultural exchange between India and the Ostwestfalen-Lippe region.

A visible symbol of this is the donation of a selection of books to the TH OWL library. Among other things, the Consul General donated works on Indian culture, philosophy, art, and yoga. These books will expand the library’s collection and strengthen the cultural ties between India and Ostwestfalen-Lippe. Library Director Andrea Kruel plans to set up a specially designated corner for the exhibits. In addition, the books will later also be available at the Detmold campus.

Nearly 900 international students at TH OWL

Shuchita Kishore also took the opportunity to engage in a personal exchange with the Indian students. Of the approximately 900 international students in total, about 200 are from India. This makes them the largest group of international students at TH OWL. Professor Dr. Uta Pottgiesser, Vice President for Culture, Communication, and International Affairs, followed up on the address and presented the diverse offerings at TH OWL: ranging from opportunities to learn German to programs designed to help students network with one another.

The Consul General’s trip to Lemgo was prompted by a visit from a delegation from the National Institute of Engineering (NIE) in Mysuru. The collaboration between TH OWL and NIE includes, among other things, joint research and student projects on future-oriented topics such as renewable energy and sustainable energy supply in rural regions.

The joint project “Indo-German Renewable Energy Initiative” is one example of how this collaboration works in practice: in this initiative, students and researchers from TH OWL and the NIE are developing solutions for the generation, storage, and smart distribution of renewable energy.
