The mechatronics degree program can be studied in four different ways:

• Traditional: A full-time program with a 4-day study week, with one day available for self-study.
• Dual study program: A four-day full-time degree program, with the fifth day available for dual training (including an apprenticeship or as a practice-integrated degree program) for practical collaboration with the company.
• Practical semester: As a variant with an integrated practical semester, the BA degree program is extended by one semester (to 7 semesters), but offers the opportunity to gain extensive practical experience during your degree program.
• Teaching profession: The degree program can be combined with an advanced master's degree program at the University of Paderborn to form a didactics degree program with subsequent teaching qualification. This version is a 5-day full-time degree program.

Training and a degree program at the same time? - Yes, it's possible ...

The degree program is accredited as both a full-time and a dual degree program. As part of a dual study program, it is possible to complete practical work and even vocational training alongside your studies. 

The respective course of study is designed in such a way that one day a week can be kept free of lectures in order to gain practical experience in a company or complete vocational training at the same time within the framework of cooperation agreements. The faculty supports students and companies in the form of framework agreements.

The Mechatronics degree program provides students with a wide range of technical knowledge. In addition to the compulsory subjects, students can choose from an extensive list of electives. This allows you to pursue specialization in a particular area by delvingdeeper into the topics that interest you.

A didactic variant of the degree program even enables you to take up a teaching position later on.

The dual study program allows you to acquire knowledge in the training company with selected practical modules.

Our degree programs are designed for on-campus learning. Classes take place Monday through Friday according to your schedule, and depending on your study model, you will have one day off from teaching obligations. This ensures that all of your courses are offered without overlap.

However, we also offer extensive online support. Many of our courses are available online and provide you with the necessary materials to study at your own pace. This does not completely replace attending in-person classes, but it does help you complete your degree program on time while balancing a part-time job and childcare. Our degree programs are characterized by extensive online support, which in some cases even makes it possible to study while working.

Everyone has individual requirements and expectations for their degree program. Of course, not everything can be included on a website, as this would be too confusing and detailed. That is why we offer academicadvising.

Practical relevance and industry contact right from the start!

Internships in industrial companies are part of our study concept! For the Mechatronics degree program, this means an eight-week specialized internship at the end of the fourth semester.

We recommend that you contact our internship coordinator, Prof. Jochen Dörr, before starting an internship. He can advise you and assess whether the internship you are aiming for meets our requirements. If you already have proven practical experience, he will check whether this can be recognized as an internship.

Further information about the internship

After submitting an application, you must complete matriculation.

First, you apply for a place at university. As the degree program does not have restricted admission, you will receive confirmation of your place immediately after completing the online application.

Following acceptance, you must formally complete the matriculation process for the degree program. The university will inform you of the necessary documents after you have completed your application. This way, you won't forget anything!

Matriculation is handled by the TH's Enrollment Office. Your contact person for the Innovative Production Systems degree program is Ms. Mara Blanke. She will be happy to help you with any questions you may have about the matriculation process.

You've done it: you've found the right degree program for you and completed matriculation.

But what happens next?

At the beginning of the winter semester, your degree program will start with a welcome week, which begins with general information and becomes more and more specific to your degree program. We will show you the premises, the laboratories, how the timetable works, and who to ask if you need further information.
