study requirements

We don't believe in purely theoretical degree programs in the lecture hall; we train you for a career in a company. So what could be more obvious than integrating this into your degree program?
We start with this in our bachelor's degree programs: we focus on a clear industry connection in our course offerings. Completing a corresponding practical phase in an industrial company is not a tedious obligation*, but rather the gateway to your future career!
We leave it up to you to decide which company you want to apply to and gain your industrial experience. Both your degree program and your career start after graduation will benefit from this! We want to prepare you optimally for your professional life, and practical experience is essential for this!
*If you already have professional experience, we can take this into account if necessary.
Depending on your degree program and previous education, you may need to complete a relevant internship as a prerequisite for admission. Depending on the degree program, this may be divided into a basic internship and a specialized internship, or it may be divided into separate thematic areas to be completed by a certain date.
Important: You do not need to have completed an internship in order to submit an application for a degree program and begin your degree program.
Internships as study requirements must be completed by the end of the 4th semester. In all BA degree programs, August 31 of the respective year is the decisive date. Please do not confuse this: although lectures do not start until mid/late September, the semester ends on August 31.
Important: Internships are study requirements that cannot be submitted at a later date. Therefore, if you have not completed the internship in accordance with the requirements and had it recognized by the deadline, you will unfortunately not be able to continue your degree program beyond the third semester.
To ensure that your completed internship is eligible for recognition, submit the certificates to the internship coordinator responsible for your degree program as early as possible. You should have registered by October 31 of the third semester at the latest, regardless of whether you have already completed your internship in full or only in part. If you foresee any problems with the internship, please contact us and we will look for a solution.
The details of the internship structure and recognition (internship coordinator) are regulated individually for each degree program:
Please note that you must provide proof of the required internships by the end of your fourth semester. If you have problems completing the internships on time, please contact the internship coordinator for your degree program as soon as possible and we will look for a solution. Unfortunately, once the deadline at the end of your fourth semester has passed, you will not be able to proceed with continuing registration for the following winter semester.
However, as soon as you have completed your 10-week internship, please submit your internship certificates to V. Siebrasse (students of Innovative Production Systems, Digital Engineering, and Industrial Engineering) or Constanze Kiwitt (students of Wood Technology) and do not wait longer than necessary for recognition (if corrections need to be made for content-related reasons). For the Mechanical Engineering and Mechatronics degree programs as well as the Virtual Product Development degree program, please contact Prof. Jochen Dörr.
In November of the third semester, application training will be offered to all students who have not yet secured an internship position at that time. Without successful participation in this application training, no exceptions will be made to the deadline for submitting the internship certificate beyond August 31.
The master's degree programs build on the knowledge acquired in a bachelor's degree program. This not only guarantees rapid and successful progress in your studies, but is also a prerequisite for admission to a master's degree program, depending on the program.
Therefore, there are individual regulations for the admission requirements for each of the master's degree programs offered in the faculty.
