Academic requirements
In order to successfully enroll in a degree program at our university, you need a "Fachhochschulzugangsberechtigung" (technical college entrance qualification). This can be a standard high school certificate, a certificate from a technical college, a technical school, a higher commercial school, or other schools. The important thing is that it states that you are eligible to enroll in a degree program at a technical college.
If you have obtained a technical college entrance qualification at a technical college in a specific field, e.g., "civil engineering," various certificates may include an addition such as "...may study the following field of study at a university of applied sciences: civil engineering,...". This restriction may apply, but is not the norm. In this case, please contact our Enrollment Office. If there is no restriction on the certificate, this is considered a general university of applied sciences entrance qualification and you can enroll.
If you have previous training as a technician or master craftsman, your diploma should include a corresponding clause regarding your eligibility for a degree program. If not, please contact the Enrollment Office.
Eligibility to study may also result from a professional qualification, e.g., completed training and relevant three years of professional experience. You can find more information on this on the information pages of the Enrollment Office.
Practical activities - Internships
Proof of practical experience is required as a special admission requirement.
This includes a 5-week internship in "Technology" and a 5-week internship in "Computer Science." Both can be completed by the end of the fourth semester, i.e., you do not need to provide proof of an internship when applying or starting your studies. The order of the two internships is arbitrary, but mixing the content is not permitted.
Relevant training and previous work experience can be credited towards these internships. If you have any questions, please contact us using the tab above.
Proof of practical experience is deemed to have been provided if the applicant has acquired the qualification for the degree program through a higher education entrance qualification from a technical college with an internship year in the field of Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or Computer Science. Applicants who have obtained a higher education entrance qualification from a technical college with an internship year in other fields or who have obtained the qualification for the degree program in another way must complete a 5-week internship in "engineering" and a 5-week internship in "Computer Science."
Technical internship
The 5-week "Technology" internship should include activities in the production or production-related areas
of an industrial company in at least two of the following areas:
- Manual and machine-based working techniques for metals, plastics, and other materials -
Heat treatment, surface treatment, and joining
techniques - Tool, fixture, and gauge construction
- Electrical Engineering
- Development, design, and assembly of machines, devices, and systems - Quality
management - Operational
setup, work preparation, and workflow organization -
Participation in project implementation/responsibilities.
Internship in Computer Science
The 5-week "Computer Science" internship should include data processing activities in an industrial company in at least two of the following areas:
- Procurement/materials management,
- Production planning/organization,
- Accounting
- Network management
- Software programming
- Databases
- Participation in project implementation/responsibilities
Operations - Implementation - Confirmation
Only industrial production companies with training authorization from a European Chamber of Industry and Commerce are admitted as training companies for the internship. This must be confirmed in writing by the training company on the internship certificate. Internships at university institutes or in companies with family connections are generally not recognized.
It is possible to complete part of an internship, but it is important to note that the consecutive periods must be at least three weeks long. The weekly working time at the company during an internship must be at least 35 hours. The actual weekly working hours must be stated on the internship certificate. Due to the short duration of the required
internship, any vacation days to which the intern may be entitled cannot be counted toward the internship period. Any internship time lost due to vacation or illness must be made up in any case. The days of absence and any vacation days granted must be confirmed on the internship certificate. Upon prior application, the internship may also be completed on a part-time basis. The
intern is responsible for ensuring that the required internship period is actually completed in full.
Together with the internship certificate issued by the company, the intern must submit an internship report. The report should comprise one A4 page per week of the internship and contain the following: department attended, supervisor responsible, and the activities performed. Each weekly report must be signed and stamped by the company.
Recognition - Dates - Inquiry
Proof of internships must be provided by the end of the fourth semester at the latest. Please note that the semester ends on August 31. Failure to submit proof will result in an examination ban in the fifth semester (i.e., no participation in examinations is
possible), and exmatriculation at the end of the fifth semester. In justified cases, the Examination Board will decide on exceptions upon written application.
The Examination Board of the faculty decides on the recognition of completed internships.
Relevant training, internship, and professional activities can be credited toward the internships if they meet the above-mentioned requirements. Partial recognition is possible for internships that have already been completed for a minimum duration of 3 weeks. The Examination Board also decides on this credit.
If you have any uncertainties or questions about the internship, please contact us before starting your internship. This is the only way to ensure that the internship you have completed is actually eligible for recognition.
The actual recognition takes place in person upon presentation of the necessary confirmations/certificates/reports to Mr. Dipl.-Ing. Volker Siebrasse.
