Requirements for matriculation in the 2023/24 winter semester

Requirements for Industrial Engineering until matriculation in the 2023/24 winter semester.

Preamble

Depending on your degree program and previous education, you may need to complete a relevant internship as a prerequisite for admission. Depending on the degree program, this may be divided into a basic internship and a specialized internship, or it may be divided into separate thematic sections that must be completed by a certain date.

Important: You do not need to have completed an internship in order to submit an application for and begin your degree program.

Internships as study requirements must be completed by the end of the third semester. In all BA degree programs, February 28 of the respective year is the decisive date. Please do not confuse this with the start of lectures, which is in March/April, as the semester ends on February 28.

Important: Internships are study requirements that cannot be submitted later. Therefore, if you have not completed the internship in accordance with the requirements and had it recognized by the deadline, you will unfortunately not be able to continue your degree program beyond the third semester.

To ensure that your completed internship is eligible for recognition, submit the certificates to the internship coordinator responsible for your degree program as early as possible. You should have registered by October 31 of the third semester at the latest, regardless of whether you have already completed your internship in full or only in part. If you encounter any problems with your internship, please contact us and we will look for a solution.

The details of the internship structure and recognition (internship coordinator) are regulated individually by each degree program.

Practical relevance

Studying only in the lecture hall? We don't believe in that; we focus on practical relevance!

Unlike our competitors, we focus on a clear industry relevance in our study programs: Completing a relevant industry internship is therefore not a tedious obligation*, but the gateway to your future career!

The Industrial Engineering degree program combines the worlds of technology and economics, which is why we build on insights into both the technical and economic fields.

We leave it up to you to decide which company you want to submit an application to and where you want to gain your industry experience. Practical relevance is an outstanding criterion for companies when hiring new employees! For us, it goes without saying!

*If you already have professional experience, we can take this into account if necessary.

General

The following study requirements apply for new enrollment starting in the 2019/2020 winter semester:

  • A school education in which you have obtained a technical

    college entrance qualification and

  • one internship each in "economics" and "technology."
[Proof must be provided by the end of the third semester; see the conditions listed below!]

As there are always questions about this topic, we would ask you to carefully review the points listed below to ensure that your transition to the degree program is as smooth as possible.

(The study requirements for matriculation before the 2019/2020 winter semester remain unchanged; more information is available here.)

School requirements

In order to successfully enroll in a degree program with us, you need a "technical college entrance qualification." This can be, for example, a normal high school certificate, a certificate from a technical college, a technical school, a higher commercial school, or other schools. It is essential that you are noted as being eligible to enroll in a degree program at a technical college.

If you have obtained a technical college entrance qualification at a technical college in a specific field, e.g., "civil engineering," various certificates may include an addition such as "...may study the following field of study at a university of applied sciences: civil engineering,...". This restriction may exist, but is not the norm. If there is no restriction on the certificate, this is considered a general university of applied sciences entrance qualification.

If you have previous training as a technician, your diploma should include a corresponding clause regarding your eligibility for a degree program. If not, please contact us. A master craftsman's certificate also grants access; please contact us for more information.

Practical activities – internship

Proof of practical experience is a special requirement for admission to the Industrial Engineering degree program. Depending on your previous education,
this consists of a 6-week internship in "technology" and a 6-week internship in "economics" for the Industrial Engineering degree program. Both internships must be completed by the end of your third semester and recognized by the university.
The following applies:
a) Applicants who have obtained a certificate from a technical college for economics and administration must complete a 6-week internship in "technology";
b) Applicants who have obtained a certificate from a technical college with a main focus area on metal technology or Electrical Engineering must complete a 6-week "business" internship.
c) Applicants who have obtained a certificate from a technical college for technology with a different main focus area or from a technical college with a different main focus area must complete a 6-week internship in "technology" and a 6-week internship in "economics."
d) Point c) also applies to applicants who have obtained their qualification in another way.

Technical internship

The "technology" internship should include at least two industry-related activities from the following areas:
- Manual working techniques on metals, plastics, and other materials - Machining techniques with cutting machines
and non-cutting shaping machines -
Joining techniques - Heat
treatment -
Technical surface treatment -
Tool, fixture, and gauge construction
- assembly of machines, devices, and systems,
- quality assurance (measurement and testing in the laboratory and in production),
- operational setup and organization of work processes.

Business internship

The "Business" internship should cover at least two of the following functional areas:
- Procurement/materials management,
- Production planning/organization,
- Accounting,
- Electronic data processing,
- Credit/lending,
- Human resources,
- Sales.

Companies - Implementation - Confirmation

Only industrial production companies with training authorization from a European Chamber of Industry and Commerce are admitted as training companies for the internship. This must be confirmed in writing by the training company on the internship certificate. Internships at university institutes or in companies with family connections are generally not recognized.
It is possible to complete part of the internship, but it is important to note that the consecutive periods must be at least three weeks. The weekly working time in the company during an internship must be at least 35 hours. The actual weekly working hours must be stated on the internship certificate. Due to the short duration of the required internship, any vacation days to which the intern may be entitled cannot be counted toward the internship period. Any internship time lost due to vacation or illness must be made up in any case. The days of absence and any vacation days granted must be confirmed on the internship certificate. The intern is responsible for ensuring that the required internship period has actually been completed in full.
Together with the internship certificate issued by the company, the intern must submit an internship report. The report should comprise one A4 page per week of the internship and contain the following: department attended, supervisor responsible, and activities performed. Each weekly report must be signed and stamped by the company.

Recognition - Deadlines - Inquiry

Proof of completion of the "Technology" and "Economics" internships must be provided by the end of the third semester at the latest. Please note that the semester ends on February 28. In justified cases, the Examination Board will decide on exceptions upon written application.
The Examination Board of the faculty decides on the recognition of the internships completed.
Relevant training, internship, and professional activities can be credited toward the internships if they meet the above-mentioned requirements. Partial recognition is possible for internships that have already been completed for a minimum duration of 3 weeks. The Examination Board also decides on this credit.

If you have any uncertainties or questions about the internship, please contact us before starting your internship. This is the only way to ensure that the internship you have completed is actually eligible for recognition.
The actual recognition takes place in person upon presentation of the necessary original confirmations/certificates/reports to Mr. Dipl.-Ing. Volker Siebrasse.
