Requirements for Production and Management from the 2024/2025 winter semester

To receive admission to the Master's program in Production and Management, you need a Bachelor's degree

• in the field of production engineering, Innovative Production Systems, Industrial Engineering, Digital Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics, Electrical Engineering, or similar (for admission to the specialization in production systems), or:
• in the field of Wood Technology, wood economics, wood engineering, forestry, or similar (for admission to the specialization in Wood Technology).

The bachelor's degree must have a grade of 2.4 or better. In special cases, applicants with an overall final grade lower than 2.4 may also be admitted to the master's program in Production and Management upon written application to the Examination Board of the Faculty of Production Engineering and Wood Technology within the respective application period. The Examination Board will review each application on a case-by-case basis to determine whether the applicant has the necessary professional qualifications to successfully complete the degree program. Proof of professional experience gained after the first degree is particularly important in the admission decision.

The bachelor's degree must comprise 210 credits (7 semesters). Admission and matriculation with a bachelor's degree of at least six semesters (180 credits) is possible; the missing 30 ECTS must then be acquired during the master's program and proven before submitting an application for admission to the master's thesis. The master's program is then extended to four semesters accordingly.

The additional results can be fulfilled through a practical semester, additional examination / examination results, or relevant professional experience:

• 20-week practical semester:

The requirements and process for a practical semester are the same as for an optional practical semester in your previous bachelor's program. You can find more information here.

• Proof of additional modules worth 30 credits:

The additional examination results must not have been part of your completed bachelor's degree, or at least not in a similar form, and must not be part of your chosen modules for your master's degree.
Modules from another main focus area of your completed bachelor's degree program, modules from another bachelor's degree program in FB7, modules not selected from your current master's degree program, modules from another master's degree program in FB7, bachelor's or master's modules from other faculties or from other domestic or foreign universities are generally suitable. The modules must be a subject-related supplement to your planned master's degree program. Modules in other faculties can only be taken within the framework of the regulations for additional modules (§34 General Part of the Master's Examination Regulations (link). Please note that these regulations for additional modules must be observed!
The modules must be discussed with the Master's program director before completion (and approved by the program director and the chair of the examination board). To apply, please fill out the appropriate form and make an appointment with the program director (to discuss the modules and obtain a signature). Then submit the form signed by the program director to the FB7 Examination Office (Ms. Jana Schulz) and participate in the courses and examinations. For examinations outside your master's program, online registration for the examinations is not possible. In this case, please contact the FB7 Examination Office (Ms. Schulz: jana.schulz@th-owl.de) in person or by email during the registration period. After passing the examinations, submit the transcript of grades for the additional examination results to the FB7 Examination Office.

• Recognition of relevant professional experience:

The professional experience (which in individual cases may also include work as a working student or dual student) must

• be relevant to your bachelor's or master's degree program and meet at least the requirements for a corresponding bachelor's practical semester,
• have taken place after your bachelor's degree or after the fourth semester of your bachelor's program, and
• be at least 20 weeks full-time (with at least 35 hours per week) (including 2 weeks of statutory vacation). Part-time work may be possible in exceptional cases and in individual cases if the employment rate is at least 50% (i.e., at least 17.5 hours per week). The number of weeks is then extended in line with the number of hours per week (the practical semester must comprise at least 630 hours worked in the company AND at least 18 weeks – excluding vacation and sick leave). Weeks or hours in weeks with less than 17.5 hours of working time cannot be taken into account in the calculation! For part-time work, a weekly list with the respective number of hours (e.g., timesheets from the company, certificate from the human resources department) must therefore be submitted, showing how many hours were worked in each week.
• If you are always with the same company, your professional activity can also be "split" (i.e., always full-time during the lecture-free period).
• The time spent at the company must not have been taken into account when calculating credits for the bachelor's degree (e.g., in dual bachelor's degree programs) and must not include the time spent working on the bachelor's thesis at the company.

A written, informal application for recognition must be submitted to the chair of the examination board (by email to the FB7 Examination Office), accompanied by a certificate from the employer (stating the duration and content of the professional activity, including the number of hours per week and whether the employee has performed the professional activities at least satisfactorily).

Various BA degree programs conclude with 180 credits, which means that 30 additional credits may be required to obtain a place on a master's program. These credits can be earned during a preliminary practical semester during the master's program or through additional modules.
