Research and Development
Research unlocks new knowledge and is the answer to the curiosity that lies within all of us. It manifests itself through publications, inventions, or artistic works—at TH OWL, particularly through collaborations with partners from industry and academia, as we maintain a strong focus on practical application.
Through new knowledge, research and teaching are closely linked; they form the basis for the transfer of knowledge and technologies to industry and society. Research, teaching, and transfer are anchored at TH OWL as equally important core tasks and address various interrelated fields of action and topics:
- To ensure visibility and excellent results, we focus on strategic research areas that raise the university’s profile regionally, nationally, and internationally.
- We offer optimal structures as well as agile research management with numerous services tailored to researchers and their needs.
- We offer an attractive research environment and a high-performance research infrastructure with state-of-the-art equipment.

Research Information System (FIS)
The Research Information System (FIS) at TH OWL, based on HISinOne-RES, is part of the North Rhine-Westphalian network CRIS.NRW (Current Research Information System NRW) for implementing the core research dataset at universities in North Rhine-Westphalia. It serves as the central foundation for recording, maintaining, analyzing, and presenting research activities to the outside world, and consolidates structured information on topics such as projects, research infrastructure, patents, publications, and collaborations.
TH OWL Internal Research Portal
The internal portal primarily serves to maintain and ensure the quality of metadata on research activities and results. It supports university-wide reporting, strategic analyses, and research management processes.

External Presentation – In Preparation
Soon, the portal will showcase TH OWL’s research activities at a glance. Visitors from outside the university network—such as those from academia, industry, or the general public—will thus gain a quick overview of projects, main focus areas, and collaboration opportunities.
Scientific conferences
The university is home to a wide range of exciting and interesting research projects, the results of which are presented at academic conferences, among other venues. The university’s individual faculties and sections also organize conferences for both the academic and professional communities. These events are aimed at both experts and the general public.
Our research infrastructure
TH OWL maintains strong partnerships with the business community, both in Ostwestfalen-Lippe and far beyond. Our strengths lie in effectively pooling expertise, building sustainable networks, and serving as a trusted partner. With our facilities—from laboratories to research halls—we provide a robust environment for collaboration. Small and medium-sized enterprises can access machinery and equipment here that they could not operate economically on their own, and, just like global players, they benefit from scientific expertise, cutting-edge research, and a global network.
