Calendar subscription

Calendar events (appointments) can be transferred to your personal digital calendar (smartphone, tablet, computer) in iCal format and you can also subscribe to them. In this way, appointments are updated automatically and you are always up to date. Perhaps you already know one or two calendar subscriptions such as holiday and public holiday calendars or the German railways offer?

You can also find themed calendars on the university's website, from which you can transfer individual dates or subscribe to the entire calendar. For example, a subscription to the university calendar " Calendar & Events" will keep you up to date with all university events and announcements. With a subscription to the S(kim) calendar, you will receive important information on maintenance work, changes to the opening hours of the service points, libraries and study rooms as well as interesting events on the S(kim) topics of Teaching & Learning, Library and Information Technology. You will also find digital calendars in the departments that you can subscribe to.

Subscription with a few clicks

For the following three calendar programmes, we use the S(kim) calendar as an example to explain how to add it to your personal calendar as a subscription:

• Outlook calender (MS Windows)
• Apple calender (macOS)
• Webmail OWA (MS Outlook Web App)

How the set-up works

1. Open the S(kim) calendar in the web browser
2. Go to the end of the calendar appointments (list)
3. Click on "All appointments in iCal format"
4. Confirm the opening of MS Outlook
5. Click on "Advanced" to customise settings (e.g.: name, description, attachments or update limit)
6. Then confirm the subscription with "Yes"
7. The calendar is imported and opened

How the set-up works

1. Open the S(kim) calendar in the web browser
2. Go to the end of the calendar appointments (list)
3. Click on "All appointments in iCal format"
4. Confirm the opening of the calendar app
5. The URL is already entered, click on "Subscribe"
6. Specify the following settings:
   - Name: S(kim) calendar
   - Storage location: Local
   - Notes: Check  
   - Attachments: Check
   - Update: Set an interval (5 minutes)
7. Finally, confirm the subscription

How the set-up works

1. Open Webmail OWA in the web browser: https://webmail.th-owl.de/
2. Log in with your university user account (IDM)
3. Switch to the calendar view
4. Select the "Add calendar" entry from the header bar
5. Select the option "From the Internet"
6. Copy the following calendar subscription address into the "Link to calendar" field
7. Address: webcal://www.th-owl.de/skim/news/calendar.ics
8. Assign a calendar name (e.g.: S(kim) calendar)
9. Finally, save by clicking on the disc symbol

Here you will find the calendar

• The newly subscribed calendar is stored under "Other calendars" (at the bottom)
• You can return to your own calendar under "Your calendars" (at the top)
