Interlibrary loan
General information
Interlibrary loans are used to obtain literature that is not available in the university library. Both books and copies of journal articles can be obtained from other libraries. In some cases, fees may be charged for the order.
FAQ on interlibrary loans
Books and journal articles that are not available at our library can be ordered online from other libraries.
For members of the university, ordering is usually free of charge.
For external users, the user account in the university library will be charged €3. This fee must be paid if the order is completed successfully
You can check the status of your order during the ordering process.
You can list your book and article orders at any time in your account in our media search.
When you place an interlibrary loan request, an attempt is first made to identify available items. However, it can happen that items are on loan from all available libraries. If you have indicated that a reservation should be made, we will ask the other libraries to do so. However, you must expect a longer processing time.
You will be notified automatically when interlibrary loan requests arrive. University members will be sent this notification to their university email address (firstname.name@th-owl.de or firstname.name@stud.th-owl.de). You can retrieve these mails via webmail.
Due to a contractual agreement with VG Wort, which represents the interests of authors, articles can currently be delivered electronically to end customers. Paper copies will only be provided in exceptional cases.
Excluded from interlibrary loan are media that
- are available at the ordering library or its library system or
- are available at another publicly accessible local library, even if this library is not authorised for interlibrary loan,
- are commercially available at a price of less than 15.00 EURO,
- are published as loose-leaf editions
- are difficult to obtain (e.g. old literature) or are particularly valuable.
The details of interlibrary loans are regulated in the Interlibrary loan regulations (Leihverkehrsordnung) - LVO
