Interlibrary loan

General information

Interlibrary loans are used to obtain literature that is not available in the university library. Both books and copies of journal articles can be obtained from other libraries. In some cases, fees may be charged for the order.

Access

Looking for literature on a specific topic?

Ther are two options for you:

• access our media search and use the hits from the "Articles & more" tab
• or choose the access  subject databases and select an article database suitable for your subject area

For each hit that interests you, you can check how you can obtain the title by clicking on the "How do I get it" button. Often the title / journal is available in our stock or online, otherwise you can immediately initiate an interlibrary loan request.

Do you know the title of the article or book?

If you need a book title, you can go directly to ILL: Books and book sections via our media search.
If you need a journal article, please select ILL: Journal articles.

Books can be borrowed via interlibrary loan. Copies of journal articles will be sent to your e-mail address or to the university library. For members of the university, the order is usually free of charge. External users pay 3 euros for a successful interlibrary loan request.
You will receive an e-mail notification as soon as the interlibrary loan order has been received. Copies of articles can usually be obtained within 24 - 48 hours. A period of 2 weeks should be allowed for the interlibrary loan of books.

Order a book

Your book order - step by step

1. First search for the book you want to order.
   The first step is to log in with your user name and password of your user account, then you can start searching for the title or author of the book.
2. Select the appropriate title from the title list using the "To ILL order form" button.
3. Use the pull-down menu to select the appropriate entry point "whole book (lending)" or "section / chapter (copy)".
4. Fill in the order details on the next screen:
   Note: Among other things, you specify here which branch you would like to collect the book from and whether you would like to reserve the book if it is on loan everywhere.
   As soon as you click on the "Order now" button, the order has been placed.
   For members of the university, ordering is usually free of charge. External users pay 3 euros for a successful interlibrary loan order.

Order a journal article

Your journal article order - step by step

1. First search for the journal that contains the article.
   The first step is to log in with your user name and password of your user account, then you can start searching for the title of the journal.
   Attention: Please first enter the title of the journal in which the article was published! The article details will follow later!
2. Select the appropriate journal from the hit list using the "To ILL order form" button.
3. Complete your order and add the details of the article you require.
   Now all you have to do is specify which branch you would like to collect the article from.
   As soon as you click on the "Order now" button, the order has been placed.
   The order is usually free of charge for university members. External users pay 3 euros for a successful interlibrary loan order.
4. As soon as the document is available, you will receive a notification e-mail with a download link and can download the PDF file via the link within 30 days.
   
   If electronic delivery is not possible, you will receive a paper copy, which will be available for collection from your library's reserve shelf for four weeks. You will find the articles on the shelf in the "Aufsatzbestellungen" folder - sorted by the last digit of your library number (you can find it on your CampusCard).
   Good to know: Employees of the TH OWL can have interlibrary loan copies delivered to their TH address on request.
