Starting Screen

After logging in to the KIS portal, you will find various options on the home page. Your screen is divided into the following areas:

  • Quick links: Here you will find links to the most frequently visited services. These currently include the "Study Planner with Module Plan," the "Study Service," and the "Study Application" for students who are already enrolled (e.g., for a master's program).
  • Recently used: This shows you the services you have used most recently.
  • My notifications: Here you will find notifications from the KIS portal, for example about new decisions or grades.

In addition, under the "Timetable" tab, you will find all the functions you need to plan your personal course schedule for your studies.

Functions

Planner of studies

The planner of studies with module plan offers you two views to organize your studies: Examination regulations (classic tree structure of the curriculum) and the module plan (calendarized course of study). In principle, you can find all relevant information in both views:

In the examination regulations area, you can view your coursework to be completed in a structured manner. You can see what you have already achieved (ACTUAL) and what you still have to achieve (TARGET), so that you always have an overview of where you are personally on your study path. You can see current examinations organized by your department, find out about details such as examination dates, examiners and rooms and register or deregister for examinations directly during the designated examination registration periods.

The study plan we recommend for you (sample plan) is clearly presented in the form of a module plan with the recommended semester. You can also use this to obtain further information about the module, such as the exact description, whether participation is compulsory (compulsory or optional) and the recommended semester. In addition to the associated examinations, the associated courses and the course catalog are also displayed in perspective.

Achievements

In addition to the detailed overviews in the study planner and module plan, you can quickly view your achievements in a structured real-time overview in the Achievements function. In addition to the examination results currently available, including any necessary examination attempts, you can get an overview of how many credits (bonus) and which grades you have earned (from the examination to your personal studies as a whole).

Student Service

A central area of the KIS portal for students is the Student Service. There are numerous options available to you here. This area is structured as follows:

  • Personal data: Click on the triangle behind your name to get more information
  • Horizontal tabs: Here you will find information on suspensions, your degree programs, contact details, payments and certificates
  • Green buttons: Here you can submit digital applications, such as leave of absence and de-registration.

If you click on the triangle behind your name in the “Student Services” area, a form will open where you can apply to change your personal data. You may also need to submit proof of enrollment to the Enrollment Office. Data that can be changed using this form includes, for example Change of name (e.g. in the event of marriage) and change of date of birth (e.g. in the event of an incorrect entry during enrollment).

The “Blocks” tab is only visible if there are actual blocks. In this area you can see whether and why you cannot carry out certain actions relating to your studies (in particular re-registration for a particular semester). The following information is displayed:

  • Reason: Why was the block set? For example, the absence of a specialist internship
  • Functions: What is not working due to the block? For example, the confirmation
  • Date: When does the block apply? For example, winter semester 20xx/xx

In the “Contact details” tab, you will see your communication channels and can also change your private (address, private e-mail address).

Reports

To give you access to the most important attestations at any time, you can download them in the Student Services function (see also previous tab). With the exception of the BAföG certificate, these are available in two languages - indicated by the country flags. Available certificates are

  • Certificate of semester fee
  • Certificate according to §9 (BAföG)
  • Certificate of study
  • Certificate of periods of study
  • Performance Overview (only passed courses)
  • Performance Overview (all attempts)

Note: The certificate according to §9 (BAföG) fulfills all requirements of the BAföG office and completely replaces form 2. The latter is therefore generally not needed.

Study application

To submit an application as an enrolled student, you do not need to register again in the KIS portal. Log in to your personal start screen via “Registration for students and staff”. You can easily apply for another degree program via the quick link “Study application”.

Note: You do not need to repeat the online enrolment process via this route later on - as with your first application.

Registration overview

You can find an overview of the examinations you have registered for in the function “Assignments”, which you can call up either via the burger menu or (more easily) by entering them in the search bar. Only your registered examinations in the respective semester are displayed here, so that you can get a quick overview of them. Only courses for which you have successfully registered (admitted) in the system and have not withdrawn are listed here.

Your personal timetable during your degree program

Schedule

You can create and view your personal class schedule by clicking the “Class Schedule” tab on your home page.

You can find the courses relevant to you (lectures, seminars, labs, etc.) in the “Degree Program Plan” feature (see Quick Links below). Once you’ve accessed this feature, you should make the following settings:

  1. Semester selection—please select the semester you want to plan here
  2. Week Selection – please select “Semester View” here
  3. Selected Degree Programs—please select the appropriate academic semester and also remove the “All” academic semesters displayed by default using the trash can icon
  4. Add to Timetable—To add a course with all available sessions to your personal timetable, hover over the course and click the “Enroll” icon.

Notes

  • Schedule or room changes will be automatically updated in your personal schedule throughout the semester.
  • Alternatively, you can view the course catalog (see Quick Links below) and navigate to the courses relevant to you. You’ll find the “Mark for Timetable” icon in the respective course details after opening the page.
  • If you need your schedule to import into your calendar, you can export the dates as an ics file (iCalendar) under My Studies / Schedule.
This portal remains in place
