Setting up the user certificate in Apple Safari
The interaction between Safari, the user certificate and the macOS operating system has proven to be very error-prone. We recommend that you use Mozilla Firefox to access the student portal. You can read how to configure this browser for access in this Documentation.
The following problems are known:
- Certificate is not accepted - The eduroam certificate is not accepted in the browser and a pop-up window that wants to use the certificate appears again and again.
- In this case it may work to click on "Always allow" in the pop-up. The password is your password for the keychain/operating system.
- Error after successful login - If the login works, there are often other errors within the exam portal that prevent a binding login or viewing the grades. It may help to reload the page.
If you still want to access the portal using the Safari browser, for example because you are using an iOS device (tablet or smartphone), the following explains how you can proceed:

Please install/configure the eduroam wireless network before setting up the university certificate for the Student Portal. You can find the necessary documentation here: Eduroam Wireless network. From there, you will also be referred back to the Student Portal setup starting point.
If the eduroam wireless network has already been configured, the university certificate is also available/integrated for the web browser described here.
- Check that the certificate has been installed correctly by calling up the following URL: https://secure.th-owl.de
- If an error message appears, there is still a problem.
- If the text "Mit gültigem zertifikat verbunden" ("Connected with a valid certificate!) appears, the certificate has been installed correctly in the web browser.
