How to set up the "eduroam" wireless network

Google Android

To set up the "eduroam" wireless network, you need the following things in advance:

Screen lock - The screen lock can be set up under "Settings" - "Device security" - "Display lock". This lock is a prerequisite for the installation of the certificates; if you deactivate the screen lock after installation, it will no longer be possible to connect to the "eduroam" wireless network.

Internet access - Depending on your location, there are three ways to access the Internet:

  • Via the free "Conference & Guests" wireless network at all university locations
  • Via internet access with your smartphone
  • From home via your own internet access

Your User certificate - You can find out how to obtain this certificate with the help of the above Internet access in the university certificate documentation referred to here.

  2. Enter your Username (xyz-xyz) and the corresponding password in the following dialogue window.
  3. The password must be entered again for extraction
Step 2 - Installing the certificate

The User certificate can also be installed in two ways, depending on the manufacturer and Android version:

Installation by clicking on the download file

  1. Click on the downloaded file
  2. If a query window now opens, confirm the certificate name and specify "Wi-Fi" for use and then click on "okay".
  3. If the installation has worked, continue reading in the next tab "Settings". If you receive an error message, continue reading below.

Installation via import in the settings

  1. In the settings, switch to the "Wi-Fi" area
  2. Click on the extended menu (three dots)
  3. Select "Advanced settings" and go to "Install network certificates"
  4. Select the certificate and click on "Okay".
Step 3 - Settings

After installing the certificate, go back to your Wi-Fi settings and select the "eduroam" network. A window will open automatically asking for the following parameters:

EAP method: TLS
CA certificate: Use System Certificates
Domain: th-owl.de
User certificate: xyz-xyz (TH OWL)
Identity: xyz-xyz@stud.th-owl.de (students) or xyz-xyz@th-owl.de (employees)

Once you have set these parameters, you can use the eduroam wireless network.
