Bright sunshine and record visitor numbers characterized the 13th nationwide Archives Day last Sunday. For the first time, the university archive of the (TH) OWL University of Applied Sciences and Arts presented itself to the interested public.
Together with other archives in Lippe, the university archive was a guest at the North Rhine-Westphalia State Archive in Detmold. The joint event was very well received: more than 300 visitors learned about the work of the archives, took a look behind the scenes, and listened to a variety of presentations by archivists.
Some (former) members of the TH OWL also visited the event and learned new facts about a predecessor institution, namely the Detmold Carpentry School and its 50 years of management by the Meyer family. A display case also contained archival materials from the Höxter Construction Trade School from the 1940s, as well as documents relating to Erwin Meyer, the former director of the Detmold Carpentry School and later professor at the Lippe University of Applied Sciences.
Overall, the audience was delighted that TH OWL wants to preserve its documents for future generations with its own archive and make them available to the public for research purposes.
