As part of the rollout of Microsoft 365 (M365) as a university-wide service, the current Microsoft 365 environment for students will be reorganized in the coming months. This will involve an adjustment to the available scope of services: In the future, students will no longer have access to all of the previous Microsoft 365 services.
The following services are affected:
Starting July27, 2026, OneDrive, Microsoft Teams, and SharePoint will initially no longer be available to students. Data and information stored in these applications will no longer be accessible as of that date.
Office applications such as Word, Excel, and PowerPoint can still be used.
Good to know: Even students who assume they do not actively use OneDrive should check this as a precaution. Microsoft often automatically sets up OneDrive when Office applications are installed and used. As a result, files—for example, from Word—may have been automatically saved to OneDrive.
Migration Schedule:
July 1, 2026
- New license holders will no longer be able to use Teams and OneDrive.
- Existing users will no longer be able to create new Teams.
- July 27, 2026
- Data in OneDrive folders, Teams, and SharePoint will no longer be accessible.
September 1, 2026
- Email programs may need to be reconfigured.
- Exception: Outlook is not affected.
- Instructions are currently being prepared.
- Outlook: Some of the previously blocked applications will be made accessible again. The timing and scope have not yet been determined.
What students should do now:
Please back up all data stored in OneDrive, Teams, or SharePoint to another storage medium right away. The university recommends not waiting until shortly before the transition date to back up your data. This will help you avoid time pressure and ensure that no important documents are lost. To save your files, you can, for example, use your personal network drive at the university.
