Semester dues

There are no tuition fees at the Ostwestfalen-Lippe University of Applied Sciences, but there is a semester fee that you must pay when you enroll or re-register.

The semester fee for the winter semester 2026/27 is made up of the following components:

Important note: The relevant date is always the date of receipt of payment. Please note that even with real-time transfers, the amount will not be displayed immediately in the KIS portal.

Under certain conditions, you may be exempted from paying part of the semester fee, e.g., if you are on leave of absence. The respective fee regulations specify the circumstances under which you can apply for a refund or exemption.

You can submit your application on the KIS portal. Upload the completed application for exemption from contribution obligations and reimbursement of contributions, along with the necessary supporting documents.

Application deadlines:

• for the current summer semester: April 15
• for the current winter semester: October 15

If you wish to continue your studies at the Ostwestfalen-Lippe University of Applied Sciences and Arts after the end of a semester, you must re-register for the following semester within a deadline set by the Ostwestfalen-Lippe University of Applied Sciences and Arts. Re-registration takes place solely by paying the semester dues on time.

You will receive a re-registration request via e-mail to your university e-mail address  (firstname.lastname@stud.th-owl.de), which can be accessed through the university's webmail service. Please remit only after you have been requested to do so!

Re-registration deadlines:
Re-registration winter semester : until 15 August
Re-registration summer semester : until 15. February

The semester dues includes the Germany semester ticket (Deutschlandsemesterticket) for TH OWL students. This ticket allows you to use buses and trains on public transport throughout Germany. The ticket is managed via the “OWLmobil” app from the operator OWL Verkehr.
