Landscape Architecture
Designing, planning, and creating sustainable environments: if this is what you envision for your future, landscape architecture is the right choice for you. Combine science, technology, business, and art. In our program, we place special emphasis on ecological and social aspects. And there’s plenty of hands-on experience: the nearby Botanical Garden is an ideal setting for practical application, including during your internship semester.
Until further notice, the program’s courses will take place in Höxter. In the medium term, instruction is scheduled to move to Detmold. Specific information regarding the relocation of programs will be announced several months before the start of the semester.

The range of subjects we offer will provide you with well-developed expertise on the following topic areas:
- Open space planning, landscape planning and natural conservation
- Fundamental knowledge of natural sciences
- Fundamentals of planning theory
- Botany and plant usage
In addition, during your degree program at Höxter you will learn
- how to use software typical for the industry and the degree program (such as AutoCAD, Photoshop, ArcView, InDesign)
- how to use plants that serve as key design elements in the landscape architecture
- how to plan and design in cities and landscapes based on a wide range of practical, professionally-oriented exercises
As a landscape architect
- you will work primarily in landscape or open space planning
- you will evaluate spatial and design requirements for landscapes and open spaces
- you will create concepts to preserve or develop natural landscapes, for village or urban renewal, or for residential development
- you will prepare for construction measures, design drafts and monitor correct offer preparation as well as the construction project
In addition, you can work as an expert, carry out management duties, or transition to science and research after completing a master’s degree program.

Studying at Sustainable Campus Höxter
Sustainable Studies at the Höxter Campus
At the Höxter campus, much revolves around the environment, sustainability, and digitalization—for example, in the environmental engineering and landscape architecture programs, or in the field of precision farming. Projects like the 2023 State Garden Show demonstrate that sustainability can be exciting, practical, and innovative. This is made possible by modern laboratories, our own botanical garden, and close collaboration with local governments and businesses.
Important Note: Mid-term relocation of degree programs from the Höxter campus
The Sustainable Campus Höxter is one of the three locations of TH OWL. In the future, the degree programs at the Höxter location are to be relocated to the Kreativ Campus Detmold or the Innovation Campus Lemgo. A timeline will be announced as soon as possible. Currently, enrollment in the degree programs offered at this location is still possible. TH OWL will ensure that all students are informed several months in advance and can continue to study and complete their degree programs successfully. You can find all relevant information here.
