Sustainable Building and Administration

NOTE: This degree program is being discontinued. After the 2019/20 winter semester, NO further students will be admitted to the first semester or higher semesters of the Master’s program in Sustainable Building and Administration.

The principle of sustainability is setting new standards for marketing commercial, administrative, residential and public properties. This degree program prepares students for the changing demands of the market, providing them with a solid, dependable background as they start their careers. Instruction is based on a comprehensive, practical and diverse range of courses.

Sustainability is becoming more and more important in building development, construction, and operations. Fostering sustainability requires a combination of both classic engineering technology and business-related considerations: Raw materials selection and purchasing, processing raw materials to create efficient building materials and designs, construction logistics, process engineering during construction, building material and energy efficiency, effective facility management, building acceptance by users and the public, possible subsequent uses, disassembly or recycling of components, building materials and entire buildings.

Qualification

Graduates will be qualified in the areas of life cycle-oriented planning, building, and administration. They may apply for the following careers:

  • Entry-level careers in research and development
  • Option to complete a Ph.D. or enter senior civil service by taking the second state examination
  • Management positions in the construction industry

Entry requirements

Bachelor's or other graduate degree with an overall grade of 2.5 or better.

Curriculum

Students complete a Master’s program of required modules over the course of three consecutive semesters, learning about both technical and scientific aspects of construction on existing buildings and building technology, combined with topics such as contractual design, project management and financing. Students complete practical projects during the degree program, and can also select from a wide range of mandatory elective modules.
