There are two paths to a doctorate at the OWL University of Applied Sciences and Arts. On the one hand, via the Graduate School for Applied Research in North Rhine-Westphalia (PK NRW), which has the right to award doctorates. On the other hand, the option of a cooperative doctorate with a university is also available.
Graduate School for Applied Research in North Rhine-Westphalia (PK NRW)
The Graduate School for Applied Research in North Rhine-Westphalia (PK NRW) has the right to award doctorates and enables the OWL University of Applied Sciences and Arts and other universities of applied sciences in North Rhine-Westphalia to conduct doctoral studies without cooperating with a university.

Cooperative doctoral programs
In addition to the doctorate via the Graduate School for Applied Research in North Rhine-Westphalia (PK NRW), there is also the possibility of doing a doctorate in cooperation with a university. The cooperative doctoral program is aimed at all scientists who are predominantly supervised at the OWL University of Applied Sciences and Arts as part of their doctoral work. The OWL University of Applied Sciences and Arts supports you on your way and creates the necessary structures.

Registration
If you enroll in a cooperative doctoral program, it is necessary that you pay the full semester fee. This allows you to take advantage of the semester ticket as well as discounted prices in the cafeteria, along with discounts offered to students outside of the university itself. Students may enroll for the summer or winter semester.
