Team
Cassian Schmidt schloss eine Ausbildung im Garten- und Landschaftsbau ab. Nach mehreren Jahren als Staudengärtner und der Meisterprüfung studierte er Landschaftsarchitektur an der Technischen Universität München.
Es folgten Tätigkeiten in der Planung, bevor er 25 Jahre lang als wissenschaftlicher Leiter und Geschäftsführer den renommierten Schau- und Sichtungsgarten Hermannshof in Weinheim prägte. Parallel dazu war er seit 1999 Honorarprofessor für Pflanzenverwendung an der Hochschule Geisenheim im Rheingau (Hessen).
In Lehre und Forschung setzt Schmidt auf Innovation: Digitale Anwendungen und der gezielte Einsatz Künstlicher Intelligenz in der Pflanzenverwendung sollen neue Möglichkeiten eröffnen. Forschungsschwerpunkte sind klimaresiliente Vegetationsplanung, die Rolle von Stadtgrün in Schwammstadtprojekten sowie nachhaltige Materialnutzung durch Upcycling von Reststoffen wie Betonbruch für Pflanzenstandorte. Ein besonderes Anliegen ist Professor Schmidt die Einrichtung eines Freiland-Reallabors als Denkfabrik unter freiem Himmel.
