UFOowl – Research Data Management at UAS in OWL

Digital research data is an integral part of most research activities. The handling, storage and subsequent use of this data is becoming increasingly important. By funding research data management (RDM) at Universities of Applied Sciences (UAS), the Federal Ministry of Research, Technology and Space (BMFTR) – until May 2025 the Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF) – is raising awareness of adequate, efficient RDM at these UAS and is supporting the establishment and expansion of RDM structures

The joint project UFOowl – Research Data Management at UAS in OWL at OWL University of Applied Sciences and Arts (TH OWL) and Hochschule Bielefeld – University of Applied Sciences and Arts (HSBI) focuses on the expansion of existing RDM services and the introduction of specialized services for research networks. A demand-oriented service concept for central services for RDM is being developed under the coordination of TH OWL. The aim is to offer technical infrastructure, legal expertise, knowledge in the field of data publication, and target group-oriented training courses across both universities from a single source. The focus is always on individual advice and support for researchers and research groups in all phases of the research process.

Both universities network with other RDM projects and initiatives throughout the state and country, particularly with UAS, in order to further develop their expertise and promote the exchange of information and experiences.
