Abstract

 

GMR (giant magneto resistive) sensors can be used to detect the vibrations of machines. Ferromagnetic machine parts influence the local earth magnetic field and these perturbations are measured.

 

In this study, a GMR sensor is connected with a signal conditioner to a wireless sensor node. This node samples the signal of the sensor and transmits it wireless to a personal computer to display the frequency spectrum. Two examples demonstrate the profit of the sensor: measuring the 440 Hz vibration of a tuning fork and measuring the vibration of bearings in a machinery fault simulator.

 

The results are shown and discussed.
