The aim of Semantics4Automation is the development of a formalism for a semantic self-description to support intelligent automation systems. Currently, intelligent automation systems are based on specialized algorithms which require formalized domain knowledge. The Semantics4Automation project deals with the formalization of the domain knowledge in the automation to make the automation systems more intelligent.

Three approaches are in the focus of the project: self-diagnose, self-optimization and self-configuration. The project identifies suitable manners to formalize the knowledge and ensure the applicability using suitable demonstrators. Additionally, the unification of the three formalisms will be analyzed to achieve a common semantic description in the domain of automation, if possible.
